Kenya's COVID-19 cases have been steadily increasing, with the country inching closer to the 5,000 mark.
On Tuesday, June 23, 2020, Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi announced that 155 new cases had been recorded, bringing the country's caseload to 4,952.
The new cases were detected from 4,171 samples tested since Monday, with 120 of those confirmed positive being male and 35 female.
Of the new cases, Nairobi County had the highest number with 104, followed by Busia with 19, Migori with 10, and Mombasa with 9.
Dr. Mwangangi also noted that the youngest case was a one-year-old, while the oldest was 77 years old.
She emphasized the need for strict adherence to COVID-19 containment measures, citing the fact that community transmission had been established and that each border in Nairobi County was affected.
As a result, authorities have implemented a cessation of movement into and out of Nairobi, Mombasa, and Mandera counties, which were among the worst hit by the virus.
Dr. Mwangangi also announced that 102 people had been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total recovery in the country to 1,782.
Unfortunately, the death toll rose to 128 after three more patients succumbed to the virus.
