On June 20, 2020, a devastating car crash occurred in Jacksonville, Florida, claiming the life of Jane Njeri Ngugi, a Kenyan woman.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call was made at 2:42 am from a person who reported their car had crashed into a ditch and was filling with water. The caller was unable to escape.

With the help of GPS, police located the submerged vehicle near a condominium complex off Eclipse Circle, just east of Bartram Park Boulevard.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) responded promptly and managed to remove Ngugi and another occupant from the vehicle.

Both individuals were rushed to Baptist South for treatment, but Ngugi was pronounced dead after efforts to resuscitate her failed. The condition of the passenger remains unknown.

Ngugi’s family revealed that she had recently moved to Florida from Washington, DC, to start a new job. She was driving to work from her friend’s house when the accident occurred.

‘She was a brand new driver who gave us worry sometimes, but she needed to drive to work, and that car ended her life,’ her sister said.

Ngugi leaves behind a 13-year-old son. The Jacksonville police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
