On June 23, 2020, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) released a comprehensive 27-page document outlining guidelines for the resumption of football competitions in Africa.

As countries like Egypt begin to resume their league activities, CAF has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety of players and all involved parties.

According to the guidelines, physical fitness considerations should be prioritized, with a recommended schedule of one match every 7 days for the first two weeks. This gradual approach will allow teams to adapt and minimize the risk of injury.

For the resumption of training, CAF recommends a three-phase approach. The first phase focuses on medical and athletic tests, followed by individual training for 7 days, and finally, small group training for a week before collective recovery.

During the recovery phase, players are expected to wear uniforms, gloves, and masks, with only six players allowed on the field at the same time. Designated residents, transports, and venues will also be required for teams, managers, and referees.

Additionally, all closed sites used for training and matches must be disinfected constantly, along with all equipment used.

These guidelines were developed by the CAF Development Division, the CAF Medical Committee, the CAF Technical and Development Committee, and the CAF Men and Women Elite Instructors.
