On June 23, 2020, a significant development took place in the Kitui County Assembly as an impeachment motion against Governor Charity Ngilu was submitted to the Speaker.

The motion, drafted by Athi Ward Representative Peter Kalonzo, accuses Governor Ngilu of violating the Constitution and abusing her office, among other allegations of gross misconduct.

According to a notice published in a local daily, members of the public were invited to participate in the impeachment process by submitting their views through written memoranda and/or filled and signed questionnaires.

The public was directed to ensure that their submissions reached the Assembly on or before the close of business on Friday, June 26, 2020.

Kitui MCAs are set to debate Governor Ngilu's impeachment next week on Monday.

Questionnaires and memoranda may be hand delivered to the Office of the Clerk, County Assembly of Kitui, or emailed to [email protected].
