On June 23, 2020, Radio Citizen made headlines with the mass firing of several employees, including Syombua Osiany, a beloved presenter of the Pambazuka program.
Osiany, who had been hosting the show from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m., took to social media to share a heartfelt message with her fans, quoting a popular hymn: 'For I know whom I have believed, And I am persuaded that he is able, to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day.'
Her fans responded with overwhelming support, urging her to stay strong and assuring her that better days are ahead. 'You have God and his word... You have it all...he has granted you all things pertaining life and godliness.. You have your lot and it's secure.. You lines have fallen at the right place... Hold on there he is faithful,' wrote Nkiro Meme.
As the news of her firing spread, fans from all over took to social media to express their shock and disappointment. 'Can't imagine that I will Be missing the powerful morning prayers from you Syombua.You were the best in that programme mummy. I dont understand how anybody is just picked to run a spiritual programme in Radio Citizen,' wrote Eliud Ruto.
Despite the challenges she faces, Osiany remains optimistic, and her fans are rallying around her, offering words of encouragement and support. 'Worry not daughter of the most high. The God whom you serve is able to do Exceedingly Abundantly Above All,(Ephesians 3: 20),' wrote Kathryn Reigns.
