On June 18, 2020, two men, Hassan Maalim Adan alias Hassan Ali and Ali Ibrein Abdi, were charged with possessing and transporting ammunition in Mandera, Kenya.
According to the charges, the two men were found in possession of 12 rounds of ammunition without a valid firearms certificate in Rhamu Dimtu, Mandera North.
They were also accused of transporting the ammunition on a motorcycle without a valid movement permit.
When they appeared before Mandera Senior Resident Magistrate Kimani Mukabi, they denied the charges.
Mr. Mukabi directed the probation officer to prepare a pre-bail report before ruling on the bail terms.
Separately, three suspected gunrunners were charged with planning to commit a felony in Mandera East on June 13, 2020.
Abdullahi Osman Mohamed, Hassan Abbey Kalamoi, and Abdigafar Abdikadir denied the charge, which alleged that they were planning to purchase 10,000 rounds of ammunition without a firearms certificate.
Police argued that the three suspects were a flight risk and should be denied bail or bond.
