On June 23, 2020, Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru's impeachment hearing at the Senate began, marking a significant moment in her tumultuous political career.
Waiguru's husband, lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo, not only accompanied her to the hearing but also led her legal team, sparking debate about potential conflicts of interest.
Waiguru was impeached by the Kirinyaga County Assembly on June 10, 2020, on grounds of corruption and abuse of office, among other allegations.
As the 11-member Senate committee, led by Senator Cleopas Malala, continues to listen to Waiguru's defence, her husband's unwavering support has raised eyebrows.
Waiganjo's actions are reminiscent of a similar incident in December 2019, when he defended his wife against allegations of mismanaging the National Youth Service (NYS) funds by MP Moses Kuria.
Waiguru has maintained her innocence, stating on Twitter, 'In compliance with the Senate's request I have today filed my responses to the impeachment motion filed for my removal from office by the Kirinyaga County Assembly. May truth, justice and the rule of law prevail.'
