Published on June 23, 2020, Tanzanian rapper Lord Eyes has finally spoken out to clear his name over allegations that he introduced his ex-girlfriend Ray C to hard drugs.
Ray C, a former East African music sensation, had claimed in a past interview that Lord Eyes led her astray and introduced her to drugs. However, Lord Eyes has now set the record straight, stating that he found Ray C already hooked on drugs.
"Sijawahi kumfunza mtu yeyote kutumia madawa. Nimemkuta (Ray C) ameshawahi kutumia," Lord Eyes said in a statement.
The two were in a relationship that was marred by constant fighting and drug abuse. Lord Eyes has now revealed that Ray C's jealousy was a major contributor to their relationship problems.
"Yule mwanadada lazima nimsifu na siwezi nikakaa sehemu nikamu-attack kwa sababu kweli nilimpenda. Ni mtu ambaye ana upendo wa kweli. Ni mzuri sana, sema wivu ndilo lilivuruga libeneke lile. Alikuwa na wivu kupitiliza kwenye kazi (music) ikawa inasumbua ilibidi tu-split," he said.
Ray C's struggles with drug addiction led to her selling her house, clothes, and cosmetic stores, as well as her cars, to fund her habit. When she depleted her finances, she became even more miserable. It was at this point that former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete took her to rehab, covering all her expenses. Ray C spent three years in the facility and now lives in France.
Lord Eyes, who is the founder of Tanzania hip hop group Gnako, also struggled with addiction but was able to overcome it after changing his environment and friends. He relocated from Dar es Salaam to a rehab in Moshi, where he finally beat the habit.
