Published on June 23, 2020, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Maghoha has announced plans to upgrade the Nyandarua Institute of Science and Technology to a fully-fledged national polytechnic.
During an impromptu tour to inspect the institution on Sunday, accompanied by her counterpart in the Ministry of Water and Sanitation Sicily Kariuki, Prof. Magoha stated that the institution has met the standards set by the ministry and will soon be upgraded to the national status.
Prof. Magoha noted that the ministry will work closely with the institution to ensure that the requisite faculties are enriched by upgrading the existing faculties, with the aim of improving their state.
“The buildings are in excellent state and the equipment for agricultural and electrical engineering as well as building and construction courses, are there,” Prof. Magoha said.
He added that since Nyandarua County has no university, it is only fair that the institution is declared a national polytechnic, as the government walks with it to ensure it attains the national polytechnic standards.
Prof. Magoha emphasized the government's commitment to upgrading Technical institutions across the country to enable youths acquire the requisite skills needed to earn a living and contribute to the country's development.
He observed that vocational education prepares students for specific jobs, which are available in schools and colleges with special and specific training.
Prof. Magoha also stated that once the institution is upgraded, it will start admitting students from across the country.
On her part, CS Sicily Kariuki announced that her ministry is set to sink and equip a borehole at the learning institution to boost its water supply and properly service the entire population.
“Technical training makes people skilled so that they may be able to handle machineries properly. Technical education makes you an expert in certain domains of life. There are certain jobs that cannot be performed well unless having technical education,” she said.
