Published on June 23, 2020, a social media report claimed that Ohangla singer Maureen Achieng' Otiu, popularly known as Lady Maureen, had passed away.
However, verified reports have since confirmed that it was a dancer identified as Maureen Nyar Awendo who had died.
This is not the first time Lady Maureen has been a victim of social media rumors. In January, similar reports of her death spread like wildfire, only to be rubbished by the singer herself.
Responding to the false reports, Lady Maureen stated, "I am not dead. I was rushed here by my family members when my condition worsened. I am currently being transfused with blood. It has never been made clear what I am suffering from but my condition has worsened in recent days," she said.
Lady Maureen has been battling health issues for the past three years, having been diagnosed with hypotension (abnormally low blood pressure). She has been in and out of the hospital during this period.
Reactions from Twitter users have been pouring in, with some calling out for people to be more responsible when sharing information online.
