On June 23, 2020, a family of four in Mathira, Nyeri County, was on the verge of giving up their children due to harsh economic times. However, thanks to the kindness of Kenyans, they can now breathe a sigh of relief.

Samuel Ndungu and his wife Mary Nyambura Mwihaki, who have been married for five years, had decided to put their two children up for adoption. The couple's economic situation had become unbearable, and they felt they had no other option.

But their story was highlighted by NTV and the Nation, and soon, police officers from Karatina Police Station were the first to answer their distress call with food. Politicians, neighbours, and corporates soon followed, and more Kenyans continue to walk into the couple's temporary home with aid.

Mr. Ndung'u expressed his gratitude, saying, 'I honestly have no right words to thank those that came out to support us. We have been getting visitors and hundreds of phone calls from people willing to help. Now our children can stay with us because we have enough to feed them.'

The family's situation is a stark reminder of the struggles many Kenyans face. Mr. Ndung'u works as a farmhand, picking tea from vast plantations, but his wages are barely enough to feed his family. He earns a paltry Sh12 for every kilo of tea he picks, and on a good day, he can earn up to Sh240 for 20 kilos.

Thanks to the kindness of Kenyans, the family is now receiving aid, including food, finances, and job offers. Corporates have stepped in to support the family financially and get them stable jobs to help improve their lives.
