Manufacture of PPEs worth Kshs 600m progressing on schedule

Kenya COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund Board Chairperson Jane Karuku led a team of board members and representatives from Equity Group Foundation on a two-day inspection of local manufacturers' facilities.

During the visit, the team inspected Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) locally manufactured by Nairobi-based Manchester Outfitters, Texplast Industries in Kikuyu, Ruiru-based Alpha Knits, and Kitui County Textile Centre (KICOTEC) and Shona EPZ near Athi River town.

Speaking after the inspection, Karuku confirmed that local manufacturers who were competitively sourced are currently working within the stipulated delivery schedules.

‘The board is impressed at the workmanship and production quality for the PPEs ordered, and we remain optimistic that we shall commence delivery to the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority by the end of next week,’ Karuku said.

The Kenya COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund has released financial resources amounting to more than Kshs 1 billion this far for the local procurement of Full kit PPEs, protective goggles, gowns, examination gloves, surgical and respirator masks.

So far, the fund has raised more than Kshs 2.65 billion to support medical facilities, welfare and social livelihood interventions such as food relief.
