On Monday, Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, was ejected as National Assembly Majority Leader, marking the end of his tenure in the top seat.
According to sources, Duale will no longer enjoy the hefty perks that came with his office, including allowances, official cars, bodyguards, and a plum office with support staff at Parliament Buildings.
As the Majority Leader, Duale enjoyed enhanced security, luxury fuel guzzlers fully serviced, maintained, and fueled by the government. However, it is expected that he will lose his office located at the main parliament buildings, extra allowance, and staff advanced to him and fully paid by the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).
Some of the privileges Duale will lose include a researcher, policy analyst, and legal officer, a secretary, personal assistant, and an office assistant. He will also lose his car fuel card and a further Sh300,000 monthly for hospitality.
Currently, a Majority Leader takes home Sh1,056,000 monthly salary, including an allocation of Sh200,000 monthly allowance and responsibility allowance of about Sh138,000 monthly. Duale will no longer be entitled to these benefits.
