Published on June 23, 2020, Rift Valley Regional Coordinator George Natembeya took drastic measures to end the long-standing ethnic clashes between Narok and Nakuru counties.
He banned grazing in Logoman forest, a disputed area bordering the two counties, in a bid to curb cattle rustling and its associated violence.
Natembeya pointed out that the use of the forest by the two communities had been a major contributor to the clashes.
He urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to summon over 20 individuals from the two communities to investigate their roles in the recent deadly skirmishes.
The administrator also directed the county commissioners of Narok and Nakuru to establish a committee comprising elders from both communities to resolve disputes and promote peace.
Following the recent clashes, local leaders had to intervene to calm the situation. Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, Njoro MP Charity Gathambi, and Narok North MP Moitalel Kenta called for a truce between the two communities, urging residents to avoid being incited by politicians.
