Published on June 23, 2020, Kenya's Ministry of Health sounded the alarm over hundreds of returnees flouting Covid-19 control measures as the country's tally nears 5,000 cases.
Chief Administrative Secretary Mercy Mwangangi raised concerns after about 200 more persons arrived from India, where they had been stuck since March.
According to Dr. Mwangangi, some passengers on these flights are not adhering to the protocols issued by the ministry, including having a Covid-19-free certificate from the country of origin.
"We have noted that some passengers on these flights are not adhering to the protocols issued by the ministry. Let me clarify that anybody coming back home must have a Covid-19-free certificate from the country where they are originating from," said Dr. Mwangangi.
Kenya confirmed 155 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the national tally to 4,952, with the majority of cases reported in Nairobi, Busia, and Migori.
People returning to Kenya are expected to have a Covid-19-free certificate and undergo a 14-day mandatory quarantine, with some allowed to self-quarantine under the supervision of doctors.
