On June 22, 2020, a Nairobi court delivered a guilty verdict against Sirisia MP John Waluke in a high-profile fraud case.
Waluke, alongside his co-accused businesswoman Grace Wakhungu, was found guilty of irregularly receiving Sh300 million from the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) in 2004.
The funds were allegedly received after supplying 40,000 tons of white maize to NCPB, with the court ruling that the accused persons forged an invoice to demand payment of storage fees for the maize allegedly imported from Ethiopia.
Magistrate Elizabeth Juma noted that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt, acquitting Waluke of two other counts, including uttering a false document.
Waluke and Wakhungu were directed to be detained at Kileleshwa Police Station pending sentencing on June 25, 2020.
