On May 14, 2020, Kenya's Ministry of Health reported 59 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections to 4,797.

According to Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, the majority of the new cases were asymptomatic, with Nairobi, Mombasa, Busia, and Kajiado experiencing rising numbers.

The Ministry has introduced a new strategy to counter myths and misconceptions about the virus, including the inclusion of Community Non-Governmental Organizations in its mobilization plans.

Dr. Mwangangi stated, “The approach will be complemented with the 59,000 trained community health volunteers that have been deployed across the country and have so far reached 12 million households.”

Of the 59 new cases, 28 were reported in Nairobi, 21 in Mombasa, 3 in Kilifi, 2 in Kiambu, 2 in Machakos, 1 in Kisii, 1 in Bungoma, and 1 in Uasin Gishu. All cases were Kenyans, with 47 males and 12 females.

The Ministry tested 2,354 samples in the last 24 hours, bringing the total cumulative samples tested to 142,366. Seventy-three more people were discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,680. However, two others succumbed to the Covid-19 disease, raising the death toll to 125.

Kenya has now passed 100 days in dealing with the pandemic since the first case was confirmed in mid-March.
