On June 22, 2020, the Togolese Football Federation announced the tragic death of Kossi Koudagba, a 25-year-old Togolese striker who had contracted malaria in his hometown of Devie in Lome.
Koudagba, who played for ASC Kara, was a two-time top scorer in the Togolese league and had helped his club win the league title in 2019.
According to reports, Koudagba had returned home in March 2020 to stay with relatives after the 2019/20 Togolese Championnat National campaign was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It was while staying in the suburbs of the capital Lome that he fell ill and died.
The Togolese Football Federation paid tribute to Koudagba, saying: “In these painful circumstances, the Executive Committee of the FTF wish to salute the memory of the player, whose qualities on and off the field are known to all.”
The federation also expressed its deepest condolences to Koudagba's family, loved ones, the ASCK club, and the staff and players of the Togo national team.
