Published on June 22, 2020, Safaricom has reopened its Meru shop after a brief closure due to a Covid-19 outbreak.
According to the Meru County Health Department, over 200 contacts of the initial 13 cases have been traced and advised to self-quarantine awaiting their test results.
The shop's acting manager, Onesmus Mulu, confirmed that staff were mobilized from other branches around the Mount Kenya region to reopen the shop.
The initial cases were detected after tests were conducted at a private facility, and all 14 positive cases are currently isolated at the Meru Level 5 Hospital and remain asymptomatic.
Medical officers estimated that the number of primary contacts could run into thousands, highlighting the enormity of the situation.
As part of its efforts to support the county, Safaricom Foundation donated Sh3 million worth of personal protection equipment (PPEs) to Governor Kiraitu Murungi, including surgical masks and sanitizers.
