As of June 22, 2020, the novel coronavirus has killed at least 468,518 people since the outbreak began in China last December, according to official sources.
With over 8.98 million cases reported in 196 countries and territories, the global death toll continues to rise. Of these, at least 4.2 million are considered recovered.
Many countries are only testing symptomatic or severe cases, which likely underestimates the actual number of infections.
The United States is the worst-hit country, with 119,977 deaths from 2.28 million cases. At least 617,460 people have been declared recovered.
Other countries with high death tolls include Brazil, Britain, Italy, and France.
