On June 22, 2020, Kenya marked a milestone in its fight against COVID-19 with the discharge of 73 patients from various health facilities, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,680.

However, the country also witnessed an increase in fatalities, with two patients succumbing to the disease, taking the total number of deaths to 125, according to Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi.

Dr. Mwangangi emphasized the need for behavior change among Kenyans to help the government contain the spread of the virus, which has affected 40 counties across the country.

“Behavior change is very crucial, and we firmly believe as the Ministry of Health that each and everyone is the social vaccine for coronavirus,” Dr. Mwangangi said during the Ministry of Health's daily media briefing.

The Ministry of Health also reported 59 new cases of COVID-19, taking the national tally to 4,797. The new cases were confirmed from 2,354 samples tested since Sunday.

The youngest case was a 7-year-old child, while the oldest was 67 years old. The new cases were distributed among 7 counties: Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kiambu, Machakos, Kisii, and Bungoma.
