On June 22, 2020, former Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune expressed his determination to become the Premier League club's manager, despite the challenges he may face due to racism.

Fortune, a 43-year-old South African, has been coaching Manchester United's under-23 side since returning to Old Trafford last year. He played for the senior squad from 1999 to 2006 and hopes to one day take over as the team's manager.

However, Fortune acknowledges that the odds are stacked against him, with only six managers from black and ethnic minority backgrounds working across the 91 clubs in the Football League. He believes that more needs to be done to encourage equal opportunities and promote diversity in the sport.

"I want to be given the job because of my ability. I want to always be judged because of my character and what I can bring to the team, not because of the colour of my skin," Fortune told Manchester United's official podcast.

Fortune's ultimate goal is to emulate his former managers, Sir Alex Ferguson and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and lead Manchester United from the dugout. He is currently learning as much as possible and is open to taking on new challenges to achieve his dream.
