On June 22, 2020, a guilty verdict was delivered in a Sh300 million maize fraud case involving Sirisia Member of Parliament John Walukhe and his co-accused businesswoman Grace Wakhungu.
According to the ruling by Anti-Corruption Magistrate Elizabeth Juma, the duo received Sh300 million from the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) in 2004 as payment for the supply of white maize.
The court documents revealed that they received the money as payment for the supply of white maize, but forged an invoice to demand payment of the money charged as storage fees for the maize they said they imported from Ethiopia.
Magistrate Juma ordered them remanded at Kileleshwa Police Station until June 25 when they will be sentenced.
During their trial, the court heard that the accused jointly with the late businessman Jacob Juma and Brian Yongo shared the money that was paid by NCPB to the company's bank accounts.
The prosecution called a total of 27 witnesses, including top managers from NCPB.
