On June 25, 2020, Magistrate Elizabeth Juma delivered a verdict in the KSh 297 million maize fraud case, finding Sirisia MP John Waluke guilty of corruption charges.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), the case was among the first to be approved for prosecution by DPP Noordin Haji in April 2018.

Waluke was convicted alongside Grace Sarapay Wakhungu, the mother of former environment minister Judy Wakhungu, and Erad Supplies Limited.

As reported by the ODPP, the case took less than two years to conclude, a testament to the swift action taken by the prosecution.

Waluke and Wakhungu were accused of fraudulently acquiring KSh 297 million, purporting to be the costs of maize storage, as well as obtaining an additional KSh 37 million from public funds.

They allegedly committed the offence between 2009 and 2013.
