On June 22, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta, the leader of the Jubilee Party, announced a significant change in the National Assembly leadership during a Jubilee Parliamentary Group meeting at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi.
Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, who previously held the position of National Assembly majority leader, has been replaced by Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya.
Additionally, Eldas MP Adan Keynan was elected as the new Jubilee PG secretary.
The meeting, which was attended by Deputy President Dr William Ruto, Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju, and 174 Jubilee Coalition Members of the National Assembly, was a brief affair.
According to a statement by State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena, the PG discussed a petition regarding the Coalition's National Assembly leadership.
President Kenyatta reminded the legislators to focus on the Coalition's development agenda and advised them against engaging in divisive politics.
He also instructed the new Leader of Government Business and Majority Chief Whip to communicate changes in the composition of House Committees to the Speaker of the National Assembly by June 25, 2020.
