On June 22, 2020, the court delivered a guilty verdict in the Sh300 million maize scandal, with Sirisia Member of Parliament John Walukhe and businesswoman Grace Wakhungu awaiting sentencing.
According to the court's ruling, the duo received Sh300 million from the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) in 2004 for the supply of white maize. However, the court found evidence that they forged an invoice to demand payment of storage fees for maize they claimed to have imported from Ethiopia.
Magistrate Elizabeth Juma ordered the pair to be remanded at Kileleshwa Police Station until June 25, when they will be sentenced.
During the trial, the court heard that Walukhe and his co-accused, the late businessman Jacob Juma and Brian Yongo, shared the money paid by NCPB to the company's bank accounts.
