On June 22, 2020, Magistrate Elizabeth Juma found Sirisia MP John Waluke guilty in a corruption case involving Ksh297 million.
According to Citizen TV, the lawmaker was taken into police custody and is awaiting sentencing on Thursday, June 25.
The case involved a Ksh297 million maize scandal, in which Waluke was accused of fraudulently acquiring public property and forging documents.
Waluke was charged alongside Grace Sarapy Wakhungu, and the two were accused of presenting a false invoice for Ksh114.6 million in 2009.
They were also accused of forging documents to justify a Ksh500 million claim from the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) in 2004.
The incident occurred when NCPB floated a tender for the provision of 180,000 tonnes of white maize, and Waluke's company, Erad Supplies & General Contractors Ltd, was contracted to supply 40,000 metric tonnes.
However, no maize was delivered after a disagreement ensued between NCPB and the company.
Magistrate Juma acquitted Waluke of two counts, including the utterance of a false document.
The MP had been charged with three counts of fraudulent acquisition of public properties and forgery in 2018.
