Ivory Coast's Henri Konan Bedie to Run for Presidency ¶
On June 20, 2020, Henri Konan Bedie, the 86-year-old former president of Ivory Coast, announced his candidacy for the country's presidency in the October 2020 elections.
Bedie, who ruled Ivory Coast from 1993 to 1999, will be running against Amadou Gon Coulibaly, the prime minister and handpicked candidate of incumbent President Alassane Ouattara.
According to African News and other media outlets, Bedie said his victory would be a great benefit to the young people in his country.
Bedie's PDCI party and the incumbent's RDR party joined in 2005 to solve the political animosity that was in the West African country.
Bedie's announcement comes after President Ouattara announced in March 2020 that he would not seek reelection after serving Ivory Coast for 10 years.
