On June 22, 2020, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission issued a summons to Kikuyu musician Muigai Wa Njoroge, citing his song 'Ino Migunda' as a reason for the action.

The song, released in June, has garnered over 600,000 views and highlights the musician's perception of the oppression of the poor by those in power.

According to the commission, some lyrics in the song are 'threatening and insulting' and may affect the harmonious existence of Kenyan communities.

The musician has been asked to appear before the commission on June 26 at their Upper Hill office.

Failure to appear on the said date may result in the musician being cited for contempt of court.

‘Take notice that pursuant to section 29 of the NCI act, summons issued by the commission must be obeyed as if such summons were issued by the High Court,' the letter reads.

The song tackles various issues, including the oppression of the poor, Kenyan political dynasties, and the recent demolitions in Kariobangi.
