Kitui County Assembly is set to debate the impeachment of Governor Charity Ngilu on Wednesday, following a petition signed by 40 out of 56 MCAs.
The MCAs accuse Ngilu of gross misconduct, including gross violation of the Constitution and the County Government Act, misappropriation of public funds, and undermining the authority of the County Assembly.
They also claim that Ngilu has skewed the award of tenders to relatives and cronies, and failed to sack Philip Mumo, the county Trade Executive whose impeachment motion was passed by the Assembly last year.
On Saturday, the MCAs met in Mwingi town to firm up the impeachment plan, believed to have the support of Wiper Party leadership led by Kitui Senator Enock Wambua, and Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi, among others.
Ngilu has blamed Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka for her woes, saying he was out to make the county ungovernable.
