June 22, 2020 - The Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) is grappling with a COVID-19 outbreak that has infected 80 soldiers, with the military taking swift action to prevent the spread of the virus.
According to reports, the outbreak began with three military officers at the Embakasi barracks testing positive for COVID-19.
As a precautionary measure, the KDF has relocated the isolation center from Embakasi to Kabete barracks, where all soldiers are being treated.
Restrictions have been imposed on the KDF premises, with only special cases allowed to enter or leave the facilities.
Reports also indicate that one soldier has died and was buried at his home in Olenguruone, Nakuru county.
Embakasi and Kahawa Garrison barracks have been placed under strict surveillance amid fears of high coronavirus infections.
The KDF has suspended parades and trainings, and officers have been barred from entering or leaving the facilities.
Even those on leave were requested to stay home until the situation stabilizes.
