Duale Impeached as Majority Leader, Amos Kimunya Takes Over

On Monday, June 22, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta chaired a Jubilee Party Parliamentary Group meeting at the KICC, where significant changes in party management were made.

Aden Duale, the former National Assembly majority leader, was impeached and replaced by Kipipiri Member of Parliament Amos Kimunya.

During the same meeting, MP Adan Keynan was appointed as the new secretary of the Jubilee party Coalition National Assembly PG.

The Jubilee party has announced plans to make further changes to the composition of House Committees, with the new leader of the Government Business and Majority Chief whip expected to announce the changes by Thursday, June 25, 2020.

President Uhuru Kenyatta urged lawmakers to focus on developing the coalition and abandon divisive politics.

Deputy President William Ruto, whose political camp has been affected by the ongoing party purge, was also in attendance at the meeting.

The latest move comes after 126 out of 179 Members of Parliament in the Jubilee party signed a petition supporting the ejection of Aden Duale as the party majority leader.
