On June 22, 2020, a significant shake-up occurred within the Jubilee Coalition in Kenya, as President Uhuru Kenyatta led a meeting that resulted in the ousting of Aden Duale as Majority Leader of the National Assembly.
The changes were announced by Jubilee Majority Whip Emmanuel Wangwe, as soon as President Kenyatta entered the meeting. The new Majority Leader is Kipipiri Member of Parliament Amos Kimunya, while Aden Keynan has taken over as Coalition Secretary.
The move follows a petition from more than 130 MPs who accused Duale of sabotaging the Jubilee agenda. This development comes after a warning from Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe, who cautioned members of dire consequences if they failed to attend the meeting.
"Missing the PG meeting should not come to anyone's mind. Disciplinary actions is crystal clear in Jubilee Party Act to those who are deviating from fundamental requirements of the party," Murathe said in a message on his Facebook page.
Earlier, some MPs loyal to Deputy President William Ruto had expressed their intention to stay away from the meeting, citing reasons such as being insulted. This move has sparked mixed reactions within the party, with analysts seeing it as a scheme to organize Ruto ahead of the 2022 presidential election.
