On June 22, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Amos Kimunya as the Speaker of the National Assembly, replacing Aden Duale. The move was unexpected, given the large turnout of lawmakers from the Deputy President William Ruto's camp at a Jubilee Party meeting at the KICC in Nairobi.

Kimunya took over the position after Duale was ousted following the meeting at the KICC on June 22, 2020. In a surprise move, Duale was replaced by Kimunya, who has been a loyal supporter of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kimunya has praised Duale for his eight years of service and has vowed to work hard to achieve the President's agenda in the next two years. He has also thanked the President for the trust he has placed in him.

Meanwhile, Adan Keynan, the Member of Parliament for Eldas, has taken over as the Chief Whip of the National Assembly and the Senate.
