On June 22, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party took swift action against Deputy President William Ruto's allies, ousting Aden Duale as Majority Leader in a parliamentary group meeting that lasted less than 30 minutes.
The meeting, attended by over 150 MPs, saw Duale being replaced by Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya, who has been elected the new National Assembly Majority Leader. This move marks the end of Duale's eight-year tenure in the position.
Only three people spoke at the meeting, with Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju inviting President Uhuru Kenyatta to announce the new changes. Uhuru Kenyatta did not say much, apart from confirming the change of Majority Leader and the appointment of Eldas MP Adan Keynan as the new Secretary for the Jubilee Coalition.
Adan Keynan has been named the new Jubilee Coalition Secretary, replacing Amos Kimunya, who has taken on the role of National Assembly Majority Leader.
With this move, President Uhuru Kenyatta has completed the purge of Deputy President William Ruto's allies in the Jubilee Party, following the ouster of Ben Washiali and Cecily Mbarire as House Majority Whip and Deputy last week, and the dewhipping of at least 16 Tanga Tanga Members from House Committees the week before.
