Published on June 22, 2020, Nairobi Hospital and Jubilee Insurance are embroiled in a dispute over a Sh357 million debt.
According to Nairobi Hospital, Jubilee Insurance owes it Sh357 million, accumulated since 2018. The hospital's Chief Executive Officer, Allan Pamba, wrote to Jubilee's CEO, Julius Kipngetich, stating that the bills originated from 2018 and 2019 packages, including Sh33 million and Sh47.8 million, and since the beginning of 2020, Jubilee owes the Hospital Sh96 million.
Jubilee Insurance, however, refutes the claims, stating that the amount in arrears is only Sh80 million. The insurer says the dispute can be settled if the hospital provides justification for the bills.
‘The dispute arising from the failure of the hospital to provide justification for some bills adding up to about Sh80 million compared to an approximate business of Sh1 billion per year,’ reads Jubilee's statement.
‘We further wish to state that transparency in billing is vital to ensure that all client’s funds entrusted to us are aptly and prudently utilized,’ the insurance service provider continued.
This is not the first time a hospital is having disputes with an insurer. In February this year, a consortium of insurers suspended credit services at Nairobi Women’s Hospital, citing cost inflation by the hospital administration and unnecessary tests.
