President Uhuru Kenyatta has made a surprise change of plans, opting to attend the Jubilee Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting in person on Monday, June 22, 2020, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.

Initially, communication to Jubilee legislators indicated that they would gather at the KICC with Uhuru to address them via video link from State House.

However, Jubilee Party Vice-Chair David Murathe confirmed on June 22, 2020, that the President had chosen to attend the meeting in person to engage the party members.

"Yes, the President will be attending the KICC meeting in person. The communication has been shared," he noted.

Legislators were informed via text message on Sunday, June 21, 2020, that the President would arrive at the KICC at 9 a.m., with lawmakers invited for the meeting urged to be seated by 8:45 a.m.

Several Jubilee MPs, including Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, had initially vowed not to attend the meeting, citing alleged insults from the President at previous gatherings.

However, the meeting is expected to proceed as planned, with lawmakers set to endorse the ouster of Aden Duale from his position as Majority Leader, as the purge in Jubilee continues.
