On June 21, 2020, Mediamax Network Limited, the parent company of K24 TV, sent a redundancy notice to its newsroom staff, informing them that their positions had been affected by way of redundancy.

The notice, which was sent via text message, invited the affected staff to meet at Emory Hotel in Kileleshwa on Monday, June 22, at 8:55 a.m. to discuss the implications of the redundancy notice.

According to sources, the entire newsroom staff, including top news anchors, reporters, and producers, were let go, except for two employees who worked in the production department and had agreed to the 50% pay cut.

Some of the employees who lost their jobs include news anchors Sam Njoroge, Rose Gakuo, Fred Indimuli, Eric Njoka, Karen Karimi, Isabella Kituri, Nancy Onyancha, Caren Kibett, Shon Osimbo, Sara Adams, Joy Kariuki, Joab Mwaura, and Tony Khwalanda.

The layoff came just a month after Betty Kyallo left the station, and it is the latest in a series of cost-cutting measures taken by the company.

“They let the entire newsroom go, from anchors to reporters to producers to news editors. Only two people who had given their consent to the 50% pay cut. They even laid off people who had accepted the 50% pay cut,” said a senior anchor at the station.
