On June 20, 2020, the South African Football Association (Safa) national executive committee (NEC) removed Ria Ledwaba and Gay Mokoena from their seats as vice-presidents.
According to Safa communications director Dominic Chimhavi, the NEC followed the book in removing Ledwaba and Mokoena, who were given an opportunity to explain themselves but failed to convince the committee.
However, Ledwaba disputes this, claiming that her fate was determined long before she wrote a letter to sports minister Nathi Mthethwa asking for intervention in the manner in which some affairs had been handled by Safa president Danny Jordaan.
She has WhatsApp messages to prove that Saturday's marathon meeting was a mere formality, and she plans to challenge her removal.
"I cannot just leave it unchallenged because there are a lot of flaws," Ledwaba said. "In fact, I will show that I was removed long before [Saturday]," she added.
Ledwaba's removal is linked to her involvement in a report authored by Mokoena, which made several allegations of abuse of office against Jordaan. A second report, a 71-page document from former CEO Dennis Mumble, also claimed Jordaan was abusing his office.
Ledwaba said she would continue to fight her removal and would not turn a blind eye to the allegations made by Mokoena and Mumble.
