Eight Ways to Care for a Nose Piercing When It's Still Healing

Getting a nose piercing is a popular trend, but it requires proper care to avoid complications and infections. Here are eight essential steps to follow when your nose piercing is still healing.

First and foremost, ensure that you get the procedure done at a reputable parlor that meets all hygiene standards. This will save you from 'piercing-gone-wrong' situations.

Aftercare is crucial for a nose piercing to heal correctly. Here are the essential steps to follow:

  • Use a saline solution to clean your nose piercing. A sea salt solution is an effective antiseptic for all skin types and is gentle on the skin.
  • Always handle your piercing with clean hands. Bacteria can transfer from your hands to the piercing and cause infections.
  • Clean the area properly by disinfecting at least twice a day. Use a cotton swab to gently clean the area and wipe the jewelry as well.
  • Avoid playing with the jewelry. The area needs to settle so that cell regeneration begins gradually. If you're constantly twisting the jewelry and tampering with the piercing, you might disrupt the healing process.
  • Don't remove the jewelry. Some people get excited and want to try out different nose rings right away, but this is a bad idea because it could disrupt the healing process completely.
  • Keep the area free of harsh chemicals. Some skin care products can irritate your piercing if you're not careful.
  • Apply makeup with a clean brush or sponge. The best thing would be to avoid applying makeup on that area for a while, but if you must, always use a clean brush or sponge to avoid severe infections.
  • Be on the lookout for any signs of an infection. Observe your piercing until it heals, and if you notice any unusual signs, such as bumps, boils, or severe pain, get checked.
