William Ruto's Fate Hangs in Balance Ahead of Jubilee Parliamentary Group Meeting ¶
As the Jubilee Party Parliamentary Group meeting, chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta, gets underway on Monday, June 22, all eyes are on Deputy President William Ruto. With his allies vowing not to attend the meeting, the focus is on whether Ruto will attend and what the outcome will be.
According to sources, Ruto's lieutenants, led by Jubilee Party deputy secretary-general Caleb Kositany, have vowed not to attend the meeting, citing fears of a purge. They claim that the meeting may end up being another dressing down for them, and they will not be given a chance to speak.
However, National Assembly Chief Whip Emmanuel Wangwe has warned of harsh consequences against any party member planning not to attend the PG.
Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to address the meeting virtually from State House, despite not being physically present at the KICC.
The meeting is expected to seal the fate of some of Ruto's allies, including National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale, who risks losing his powerful position.
Other changes expected to be made include the appointment of new committee chairs, with Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo being fronted to lead the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.
However, the expected changes have been criticised by Soy MP Caleb Kositany, who accused Uhuru of ruling the party with an iron fist.
