Brazil coronavirus toll hits 50,000 ¶
On Sunday, Brazil registered its 50,000th death from the coronavirus outbreak, marking a grim milestone in the country's struggle to contain the disease.
Brazil is the second worst-affected country behind the United States, with the spread of Covid-19 accelerating across Latin America.
Neighboring countries, including Mexico, Peru, and Chile, are also hard-hit, with death tolls soaring and healthcare facilities pushed to the brink of collapse.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been criticized for his handling of the pandemic, comparing the virus to a 'little flu' and arguing that the economic impact of shutdowns is often worse than the virus itself.
Spain reopens borders ¶
As Europe gradually emerges from lockdown, Spain has reopened its borders, allowing EU nationals, those from the passport-free Schengen zone, and Britons to enter the country without quarantine periods.
Over 100 flights from European countries landed at Spain's airports on Sunday, marking a significant step towards reviving the country's tourism industry.
However, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has warned that the danger has not passed, urging citizens to remain vigilant and follow hygiene and protection measures.
