Published on June 22, 2020, North Korea has been escalating tensions with South Korea, with a recent report indicating that the country is preparing a massive anti-South leaflet campaign.
The campaign, which is said to be the largest of its kind, aims to distribute 12 million leaflets across the border, targeting South Korea and its leader, Kim Jong Un.
The leaflets are expected to criticize Kim Jong Un over human rights abuses and his nuclear ambitions, with defectors in the South sending similar messages attached to balloons or floated in bottles.
Analysts have suggested that North Korea's actions are part of a series of staged provocations aimed at forcing concessions from Seoul and Washington.
Inter-Korean relations have been frozen for months, following the collapse of a summit in Hanoi between Kim and US President Donald Trump early last year.
