As we celebrate Father's Day, it's essential to acknowledge the growing number of single-parent households in Kenya, with many being headed by women. However, there are also numerous single fathers who are dedicated to raising their children, often facing significant challenges in the process.
On Father's Day, we pay tribute to these unsung heroes, sharing the stories of four young people who were raised by their fathers. Their experiences offer valuable insights into the lessons they've learned and the values they've adopted.
Cedrick Khayeke, 24
Cedrick's father took on the responsibility of caring for him and his four siblings after their mother's passing in 2011. Through his father's dedication, Cedrick learned the importance of responsibility and sacrifice. He recalls how his father would often apologize in advance for missing school events, demonstrating his commitment to their well-being.
As Cedrick grew older, he began to appreciate the sacrifices his father made to provide for them. He learned to be responsible and independent, values that he continues to uphold today.
Esther Patrobers, 24
Esther's father was her rock after her mother's passing when she was just seven years old. He was her confidant, her mentor, and her friend. Esther credits her father with teaching her the value of love, nurturing friendships, and cooking. She recalls how he would take her with him on his job assignments, exposing her to new experiences and people.

Gloria Kavetsa Nyonga, 24
