Kenya has been grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic for 100 days, and the situation continues to worsen. On Sunday, the country recorded its highest number of cases, with 260 people testing positive for the disease.
According to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, the total number of cases now stands at 4,738. The youngest patient is just 7 months old, while the oldest is 90 years old.
Of the new cases, 254 are Kenyans, and six are foreigners. The cases were reported from 3,651 samples that were tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the total cumulative samples tested to 140,012.
Nairobi leads the list with 157 new cases, followed by Mombasa with 42, Kwale with 15, and Kiambu with 14.
Unfortunately, two more people succumbed to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 123. However, 21 people have been discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,607.
CS Kagwe noted that by next week, each county will have at least 300 isolation bed capacity. He also emphasized the importance of observing containment measures to fight the disease, citing the impact of COVID-19 on people's mental health.
