On June 21, 2020, a heartwarming gesture was witnessed in Ghana as a 56-year-old cobbler, Opani Sarfo, received a KSh 18,000 gift from well-wishers in Virginia, USA, under the auspices of the Crime Check Foundation.

According to reports, Opani Sarfo, a father of five, had been struggling to make ends meet due to the COVID-19 lockdown. He was spotted working in his cobbler shop, which was in violation of the lockdown exercise put in place by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

When asked why he was working, Opani Sarfo disclosed that he did not have anything at home and hunger was killing his family. He was hoping to make about KSh 100 for the day, which his family would use to buy some rice and cook.

However, his fortunes changed when he was handed KSh 18,000 by a well-wisher while at his shop trying to look for KSh 100 to take home for food. The emotional gesture and video were under the auspices of the Crime Check Foundation, led by Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng.

The good gesture excited and impressed many people on social media, with many wishing more people would come out to help those really in need, especially during the pandemic.
