Kenya's COVID-19 cases have reached 4,738, with 260 new infections reported on June 21, 2020, following the testing of 3,651 samples in the last 24 hours.

According to Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mutahi Kagwe, the youngest case was a 7-month-old baby, while the eldest was a 90-year-old.

During the daily COVID-19 briefing at Afya House, CS Kagwe announced that the total number of samples tested now stood at 140,000.

Of the 260 new cases, 254 were identified as Kenyans, with 176 males and 84 females.

CS Kagwe took the opportunity to thank several stakeholders for their role in combating the pandemic, highlighting the importance of the media in spreading awareness about COVID-19 safety measures.

“I thank the media for highlighting matters relating to COVID-19. We are greatly indebted to you,” CS Kagwe stated.

He also acknowledged the government's increased capacity in testing, with 58,958 samples tested between June 1 and June 21, resulting in 2,717 positive cases for COVID-19.

“It is evident that COVID-19 will be with us longer & it will stretch our healthcare system, it is now our personal responsibility to ensure we observe the containment measures to fight the disease,” CS Kagwe asserted.
