Kenya's COVID-19 Response Takes Shape ¶
On June 21, 2020, Kenya marked a significant milestone in its fight against COVID-19, discharging 600 patients for home-based treatment and care.
According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, 212 patients were released from Coast General Hospital, while 38 were discharged from Kenyatta University Hospital.
As per World Health Organisation protocols, patients are released after 14 days in hospital, at which point it is difficult for them to spread the virus.
On the same day, Kagwe announced that the country had recorded 260 new COVID-19 cases, the largest number of infections on a single day, bringing the total number of infections to 4,738 since the first case was confirmed in March.
“The more we test, the more cases we get,” Kagwe noted, highlighting the importance of continued testing in the country’s response to the pandemic.
