Kenya's COVID-19 cases have been on the rise, with 260 new infections recorded on June 21, the largest number of cases in a single day.
This brings the total number of cases in the country to 4,738 since the first case was confirmed in March.
According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the new cases were confirmed from 3,651 samples tested since Saturday.
Among the new infections are a 90-year-old and a 7-month infant.
Kagwe noted that the coronavirus will be with the country for a long time and will likely put a strain on the medical system, as it has globally.
Of the 260 new cases, 6 are foreigners, while the rest are Kenyans.
On the positive side, 21 COVID-19 patients were discharged from various health facilities on Sunday, raising the number of recoveries to 1,607.
The government has also embarked on discharging asymptomatic patients from hospital for home-based care, with 600 patients already discharged.
Unfortunately, 123 people have succumbed to the virus in the country as of June 21.
