On June 21, 2020, Homa Bay MCA Maurice Ogwang' was arrested for allegedly hiring goons to assault his colleagues, an incident that occurred on May 7, 2020, at River Ondhedhe in Karachuonyo.

According to eyewitnesses, Awuor, Nyambok, and Opiyo were visiting their nominated colleague Amina Ismael when they were blocked by the assailants on a bridge and assaulted before being pushed into the river.

Awuor reported that he was robbed of Sh75,000 and his mobile phone worth Sh120,000 was destroyed during the attack, while Nyambok claimed to have lost Sh180,000.

When contacted, Ogwang' denied the arrest and warned the media against reporting anything about him, stating, "Do not write anything about me. I am not aware of any arrest,"

However, Homa Bay police boss Esther Seroney confirmed that Ogwang' was arrested following a directive from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and he will be charged on Monday.
